According to Lt. Robert Benson, the crash occurred around 8 a.m., Monday in the area of South Quaker Lane and Dana Place. Once on scene, officers found a head-on crash between the bus and the car with a possible ejection.
An investigation into the crash revealed that a 2002 Honda Civic was traveling north on South Quaker Lane, and a 2015 Ford Red Hook School bus traveling south on South Quaker lane collided. The operator of the Honda was partially ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Dutchess County Medical examiner, Benson said.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The school bus was occupied by three students, one bus monitor, and a driver. The occupants of the school bus reported no serious injuries and were transported to MidHudson Reginal Hospital for evaluation, he added.
The accident is being investigated by the Town of Hyde Park Police Department Detective division with the assistance of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s office.
The Pleasant Valley Fire Department, Mobil Life Ambulance, Roosevelt Fire Department members, New York State Police, and Dutchess County Medical Examiners Office assisted at the scene.
"A special thanks to Dutchess Ambulette, who was passing through and stopped to lend aid to the victims before fire and rescue personnel arrived," Benson said.
More information will be released at a later.
